Civil Law and Litigation

Civil law in Trinidad and Tobago governs disputes between individuals, companies, or other entities where compensation or specific relief is sought rather than criminal penalties.

It encompasses a wide range of legal areas, including contract disputes, negligence and personal injury claims, landlord and tenant issues, property and boundary disputes, defamation, debt recovery, and family law matters such as maintenance and custody.

At our firm, we provide clear legal advice and strong advocacy in both the Magistrates’ Court and the High Court. We represent clients in petty civil matters before the Magistrates’ Court such as small claims, and offer experienced representation in more complex civil litigation before the High Court and Court of Appeal, including claims for damages, injunctions, and judicial review.

Whether you are initiating a claim or defending one, we are committed to protecting your interests and achieving a fair and timely resolution.

We assist in:

  • Preparing and serving pre-action protocol letters

  • Advising on the merits of a potential claim or defence

  • Drafting and filing claims or fixed date claim forms

  • Entering an appearance on behalf of defendants

  • Drafting and filing defences, counterclaims, and replies

  • Making and responding to procedural applications (applications to strike out, amend, or extend time)

  • Representing clients at case management conferences and pre-trial reviews

  • Engaging in settlement negotiations and mediation

  • Drafting witness statements and preparing trial bundles

  • Representing clients at trial before the Magistrates’ Court, High Court, or Court of Appeal

  • Enforcing court judgments (garnishee proceedings, writs of execution, and charging orders)
