Powers of Attorney
A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows one person to appoint another to act on their behalf in legal, financial, or personal matters. In Trinidad and Tobago, Powers of Attorney are commonly used to facilitate transactions when the Donor is abroad, unwell, or otherwise unable to act personally.

Powers of Attorney can be general or specific, depending on the scope of authority granted. A General Power of Attorney gives broad authority to manage a wide range of affairs, while a Specific Power of Attorney is limited to a particular act or transaction. In cases involving the incapacity of the Donor, an Enduring Power of Attorney may be advisable, although this type is not yet formally recognised in local legislation and must be carefully structured.
